Dr Peter Knez is a distinguished investment executive, technologist, and academic who brings decades of leadership at the highest levels of global finance and innovation to the Frontier Technologies Lab at the University of Cambridge. As an Advisor to the Lab, he supports the development of cutting-edge research and translational initiatives that harness emerging technologies—such as AI, blockchain, and digital finance—to tackle global challenges and redefine the future of economic systems.

Peter is best known for his tenure as Global Co-Chief Investment Officer at BlackRock, where he helped grow fixed income assets under management from $5 billion to $40 billion in the U.S., and to $80 billion globally. He has also held senior leadership roles at Barclays Global Investors, Lincoln Capital Management, and Goldman Sachs, where he was recognised for pioneering work in quantitative fixed income research and developing scalable, data-driven investment strategies. His leadership was acknowledged with accolades such as European CIO of the Year.

In recent years, Peter has turned his focus toward sustainability, environmental finance, and digital transformation. He is Chairman and CEO of Teal Group and Palm Global Tech—ventures that use AI and Web3 to transform nature-based assets into verified, investable products and democratise access to financial services for underserved communities. His advisory and board roles span innovative companies in digital assets, portfolio management, supply-chain intelligence, and biodiversity-linked investment solutions.

Peter’s academic background is equally accomplished. He holds a PhD from the Wharton School, completed postdoctoral research at the University of Chicago, and has held faculty positions at leading institutions including the University of Wisconsin (where he was named Teacher of the Year), the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and the University of Chicago. His commitment to rigorous thinking, paired with his ability to translate theory into real-world financial and technological systems, makes him an invaluable contributor to the Lab’s interdisciplinary ecosystem.

Peter’s work with the Frontier Technologies Lab supports the Lab’s broader mission: to catalyse transformative change by bridging academia, industry, and policy across the University of Cambridge, Oxford, MIT, Harvard, and leading global partners.
