The Polkadot Academy

A pioneering in-person training academy housed within Cambridge University colleges. Scholars were selected from a global applicant pool and underwent vetting by both the Parity and academic teams. The rigorous program featured university-standard coursework and assessments, developed and taught by Parity's senior team (led by Dr. Gavin Wood). This course set a gold standard in blockchain education. Scholars learned the fundamentals of blockchain technology, encryption, game theory, and Rust/Substrate, along with specialized training for building in the Parity/Polkadot ecosystem. Upon successful completion, scholars received a certification. The program has since expanded to multiple locations worldwide.

The Oxbridge Blockchain Scholarship

A trial scholarship programme was established between the Universities of Oxford & Cambridge. This demonstrated that highly skilled individuals who might normally enter consulting or traditional finance could be trained in blockchain protocol development; retaining engineering talent and introducing top tier infrastructure and application developers into the industry - demonstrating multiple career opportunities. With over 100 highly qualified applicants, the programme selected 56 of the best candidates and provided each with a $3000 Scholarship (kindly funded by 1kx and Daomaker). A 4 week intensive online training programme took part over the UK University winter holidays (delivered with the support of Chainshot).

This programme demonstrated a high retention rate and creates a blueprint for other organisations to either collaborate to deliver a programme or construct an independent course with similar principles.

Individual Lectures and Training Sessions

FTL has collaborated with student societies within the university to bring expert and influential external lecturers who lead seminars on niche subjects. Many of these talks involve application of the technology and industry expertise is vital.

FTL has also collaborated with partners such as the United Nations or the World Bank - facilitating workshops which bring experts together to teach groups outside of the university.
