Co-Hosted by: The Council of Global Change (CGC), The Frontier Technologies Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, YPO Social Impact Network and YPO Manhattan.

FTL is searching for architects of positive change to co-create policy alongside some of the world's most influential organisations. Representatives of FTL will be active participants, drafting chartered international resolutions and signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to build new global frameworks.

This roundtable is a unique opportunity to contribute to a new model for sustainable country development and write the next chapter of global prosperity. Participants should attend with an ethos of community; representing the views of those in their ecosystem/ industry in order to create policy recommendations for the many, not the few.

Event Description

A new approach to fostering sustainable development is required amid climate change, economic inequality and rapid technological disruption. This high-impact roundtable brings together multiple leaders at the UN headquarters in New York, to develop a new paradigm that moves beyond traditional aid models and embraces the "triple bottom line" of planetary health, social equity and economic prosperity. The event will form part of a global series, aiming to gather insights from diverse communities. An example of an ideal outcome would be the production of inclusive guidelines or standards upon which the many frameworks aimed at tackling such issues can be measured and held accountable. After a series of pre-roundtable workshops - the first event, alongside our colleagues from the World Bank, will focus on financial inclusion; highlighting the looming ‘digital divide’ which is exponentially increasing in the age of artificial intelligence.

Our Core Focus: From Theory to Resolution

We will draft concrete international resolutions addressing the ‘digital divide’ in two areas:

  1. AI as a Force for Good

A topical and growing concern is the fair adoption and application of ‘AI’ into global systems and daily practice. Workshops in the lead up to this roundtable have highlighted a need to understand AI as applied to Education and Finance. A core concern, which continuously surfaced, was the need for these systems to be culturally aware. In consideration of this, (to remain focussed), an initial desired outcome will be the exploration of ‘A New Economic Blueprint’. We will focus on how AI (or innovative technologies) can be a catalyst for financial inclusion and economic empowerment. The discussion could lead to concepts such as a "Global Digital Identity and Financial Inclusion Protocol”, to give every citizen a secure, privacy-centric account with the ability to monetise their data as AI systems advance. With such a system, financial literacy may also be addressed at scale. Additionally, we aim to address the need for a "Data Sovereignty and Citizen Data Rights Charter" to prevent predatory AI policies and "AI-driven neo-colonialism”. The aforementioned education theme will remain throughout, and devised solutions will need to focus around the preservation of cultural intelligence and practices.

  1. Holistic Country Development in a Changing World

Many countries are currently exploring what is required to be truly “Sovereign” in the digital age. The ‘New Economic Blueprint’ will be applied to regions facing acute challenges. The conversation will focus on a "Digital Identity & Financial Access Mandate" to build resilient economies and an "Ethical AI Development and Data Sovereignty Compact" to ensure technology serves the people. Questions that will be asked of the roundtable will include: What standards are required? What is the resource requirement? Which policies need to be updated or created? And ultimately which innovations (social or technological) can aid us?

It is not the intention of this roundtable to dictate to anyone how or why they should build their country. We have gathered experts in a range of disciplines to provide insights on how their areas of expertise could be truly sovereign (owned by the people and the country).

Many groups have, and will have, similar conversations - we offer time for thought, a platform for debate and an official resolution to share these insights; followed by an opportunity for the influential parties in attendance to offer their support towards the desired outcomes as this project begins.
